Caps

George's Point of View

Airlines are well protected by international treaties with a cap of about $150k U.S. Dollars for the death of a human being.
Airlines tend to skip over the part where they should be helping passengers deal with trauma, and go straight for the bottom line: rebooking. I don’t expect that passengers will be compensated for a near death or frightening experience any time soon. But airlines don’t want the bad press from a noisy disgruntled passenger. If you complain loud enough, you may get some miles.
After a night time emergency landing in Brazil, I complained pretty loud and received a $300 certificate.
